Handyman is a term used for a person proficient in a wide range of home services to include repairs of broken windows or doors, repair and or installation of cabinets, wall repair, loose or damaged flooring, exterior repair work such as deck cleaning and repair,  gutter repairs and cleaning and much more.  Some handyman will be able provide small electrical repair jobs such as replacing a light switch, leaky toilet or faucet.  For larger plumbing or electrical jobs, a licensed contractor is a must.

Handyman Licensing and Insurance

Before you hire a handyman for your home or commercial property repairs, check with your city or town licensing department and see what licensing requirements there are for handyman services and to check that your prospective handyman is licensed or registered to conduct such services.  Many localities require that paid handyman looking to provide residential or commercial handyman services to be licensed and insured.

Handyman Fees

Typically, most handyman jobs are “in and out jobs”; small jobs that can be completed in a couple of hours or a couple of days.  Most handyman services charge on a per hour plus materials schedule.  For example, there is an initial hour charge and a charge for each additional hour billed at ¼ hour increments, some handyman will charge an initial trip charge and a fuel charge.  A good understanding of your prospective handyman’s fees is a must before any handyman work starts.  Good communication and understanding is key in building a great long term working relationship with your prospective handyman.
