In order to properly keep you marble surfaces clean and inviting, a clear understanding of marble and its properties is a must.
Marble is a calcite that has gone through a process of metamorphism from sedimentary rock such as limestone.
Because, marble is made mostly of calcium, it is very sensitive to low ph (acidic) cleaning products. Accidental spills or using general purpose cleaners on marble can cause a stain like on the surface of the marble called etching.
This etching can not be removed with cleaning products, it has to be sanded with diamonds and polished naturally.
There are many products on the market to safely clean marble. When looking for a marble cleaning product, ensure that it is a neutral ph and it does not leave too much residue.
